Thankfully, an incident involving a train catching fire while it traveled through London on Sunday, April 21, ended without any reported injuries. Late on Sunday night, as the train made its eastbound journey through London, Ontario, a fire broke out, engulfing five of its carriages. The London Fire Department confirmed that thankfully, no one was injured in the ordeal. The fire initiated around 10:49 p.m. near Richmond Street and Pall Mall Street. The train, under the operation of Canadian Pacific Rail, was quickly halted near a commercial and residential complex, allowing firefighters to efficiently extinguish the flames. The train was carrying old wooden railway ties from Strathroy, and importantly, there were no hazardous materials onboard. Although the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it is being treated as a potential case of arson until evidence indicates otherwise, with the CP Rail police unit leading the investigation.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the London Fire Department for their prompt and effective response, ensuring the situation was controlled and damages were minimized.
